Camino Don Bosco: A Pilgrim Retreat of DBFC Lay Mission Partners
The teaching and non-teaching staff of Don Bosco Formation Center, Lawaan, went around Negros Occidental last May 25-28, 2023, for a pilgrim retreat and recreation. This is an annual activity organized by the Salesians of DBFC for their Lay Mission Partners, represented by Fr. Erwin Joey Cabilan, SDB. They were also joined by the staff of FIS Social Communication & DBCLAY who are also part of the pool of teachers in the seminary.
This year’s retreat in Don Bosco Retreat House, Mambukal, was centered on the theme “Living Don Bosco’s Dream as a LAY MISSION PARTNER”. The retreat master, Fr. Joseph Kunle Ogundana, SDB, guided the participants with his input on the importance of discovering and acknowledging one’s strengths and weaknesses to be able to fully embrace the Salesian Spirituality as their guiding principle and emphasizing that the work responsibility of each individual is vital not only in the formation of the aspirants but for the community as well. The moments of reflection, sharing, prayer, and meditation were an opportunity for them to strengthen their connection with God; they made them realize their giftedness as well as deepen their understanding of their companions. It also motivated them to live their lives following the Salesian values and spirituality.
Aside from the retreat, they also have the opportunity to visit the other Don Bosco settings: DB Murcia, Granada, and Victorias, churches, and other tourist destinations in the area.
The 4-day break from work was a chance for the LMPs to rest, bond, and enjoy the beauty of nature as well as one another’s company. They become more empowered to continue the mission of Don Bosco with renewed vigor and zeal.
