Don Bosco Philippines South Province attended the 3rd Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) East Asia-Ocenia Regional Conference in Don Bosco Seminary, Parañaque on September 25-27, 2023 hosted by the Philippines North Province (FIN) spearheaded by Fr. Joel Camaya, SDB, IUS EAO Regional Coordinator. The conference was graced by Fr. Oscar Lozano Rios, SDB, IUS World Coordinator.
With the theme, Salesian HEIs Today: Challenges and Opportunities, the three-day conference discussed the following topics: IUS World Report, The Challenges of AI in Higher Education, Technology in Higher Education, Orientations for Campus Ministry in Salesian HEIs, Policies for Salesian Presence in HEIs 2022-2026, Common Programs 2022-2026, and Way Forward for EAO-IUS. Moreover, Fr. Ronilo Javines, SDB, DBTC-Mandaluyong Rector/President was elected as the new IUS-EAO Regional Coordinator.
Among the six IUS EAO member institutions, four were present during the conference: FIN (Philippine North Province)-Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong, Don Bosco College-Canlubang: Philippine South Province (FIS)-Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu; Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (PGS)-Don Bosco Technological Institute-Boroko. Other member institutions who were not able to attend the conference were Don Bosco Simbu Technical College from PGS and Salesian Polytechnic-Tokyo from Japan. Under IUS are Salesian tertiary and higher education institutions. As a new Salesian area of presence, the IUS represents the congregation’s commitment to hone and transform the lives of more young people.
