Blessed Be the God of Israel

by Honesto Geronimo

Zechariah, filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying:
    “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
        for he has come to his people and set them free.
    He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
        born of the house of his servant David.
    Through his prophets he promised of old
        that he would save us from our enemies,
        from the hands of all who hate us.”

Lk 1:67-79

9th Misa de Gallo

Seeing finally his newborn son, Zechariah opened his mouth in praise of God. This song, sung in the morning by every ordained minister, is product of his contemplation while his son was growing in Elizabeth’s womb. It has themes of salvation, freedom, mercy and compassion.

God has come to emancipate mankind from sin, darkness and the enemy.

God feels compassionate love for his people. In mercy He forgives the sins of His people.

God sets His people free from fear and hopelessness.
