Communication

Jesus said to His disciples, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Mt 28:16-20

Ascension 7th Easter Sunday Cycle A

Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus finally returned to His Father. His mission is done. The Holy Spirit will take over in ten days’ time.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave them the command to teach all nations all that He has commanded them. Because of such mandate this day has also been designated as World Communication Sunday.

Communication that is honest is the basis of any successful relationship. The common root of misunderstanding is often lack of communication. Unfortunately when people fight, they stop talking to each other. And if such silent treatment prolongs the conclusion would always be the end of the relationship.

Communication entails two steps. Talking and listening. Most people have no problem talking. The difficulty happens in listening. Many people know not how to listen. At time people have biases that block them from hearing others.

In this modern age when the means of communicating have multiplied tremendously people still fail to communicate. Imagine two people sharing a meal and yet texting with the other person who is far away.

The Church urges us to use efficiently all means of communication to spread the gospel as Jesus has told His disciples before ascending to heaven.
