If You Love Me Feed My Sheep
3rd Sun EASTER Cycle C
Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” John 21:1-19

Peter even after seeing the Lord risen from the dead went back to fishing with four other apostles. Jesus repeated the miraculous catch of fish to remind them that they must then more than ever catch men not anymore fish.
After preparing breakfast for the tired apostles Jesus asked Peter three times “Do you love me?” Peter recalling that he denied his master also for three times, replied affirmatively. And after every reply of Peter Jesus told him “Feed my sheep.”
Peter must show his devotion to Jesus by taking care of Jesus’ flock. This is Jesus’ wish not only for Peter and the apostles but also for everyone who follows Christ.

Pope Francis who just died has loved the sheep of Jesus immensely in the marginalized, the poor, the sick, the migrant, those discriminated and outcast from the church.
As we continue to celebrate Easter, let us all as followers of Jesus, catch men in the depths and far from the church and feed the sheep outside the fold.
