Jubilee Year of Forgiveness

by Honesto Geronimo

Elizabeth said in reply,
“No. He will be called John.”
But they answered her,
“There is no one among your relatives who has this name.”
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,”
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.

Lk 1:57-66

8th Misa de Gallo

Finally, John was born. His nosy relatives asked for his name. They did not agree with Elizabeth’s suggestion of “John”. However, Zechariah insisted and wrote “His name is John” for that is what the angel said. With that miraculously he was able to speak again. The relatives nosy as ever begun to wonder if John was the messiah.

Many times, people poke into affairs not their own. They even give unsolicited advice more often than not wrong. But the people who are actually involved are just too happy only to wonder at the good that happens to them even if they do not even comprehend.

God’s ways are always mysterious. But they are always gracious. We need not understand. Maybe we would never understand. God never fails in His purpose.

2025 is declared Jubilee Year by Pope Francis. He only asks us from everyone three things: FORGIVENESS OF DEBT, RESPECT FOR LIFE and HOPE FOR YOUTH.
