January 27, 2018, Cebu – Philippines. The Salesians of Pasil, Cebu continue to host 27 families of the 740 + families affected by the fire that broke out 600 meters where Don Bosco Youth and Training Center is located.
The fire victims have been temporarily staying at either the barangay (village) gym, the public school, and the Don Bosco Youth Center (DBYC). They have been asked by the government to return to their respective areas by January 28th with the understanding that the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) would have finished the clearing of burnt structures (this is necessary to avoid accidents) and the road re-blocking (to make way for roads and avoid extreme congestion). However, returning home soon seems not possible.
Right now, the families are staying in one of the covered basketball courts of the Youth Center and activities of the offices and training center have resumed. The Salesians, through the help of generous donors, continue to be busy receiving and distributing donations not only to the 27 families but to all 740+ families affected by the fire.
The Youth Center staff sort out donations in kind — rice, canned goods and clothing to be distributed to all those affected by the fire.
