Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu Inc., Cebu City, 27 August 2018. In line with the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Salesian Youth Movement, the SYM-SDB FIS once again convened the youth for the annual Leaders and Animators Formation (LAF) at Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu last August 27, 2018 with the theme, “Ablaze.”
The formation program commenced with a Holy Mass officiated by the SYM in-charge Fr. Vince Michael K. Sabal, SDB and concelebrated by the CYM FIS delegate, Fr. Joriz F. Calsa, SDB, Vocation Promotion Director and Youth Center in-charge of Lawaan, Fr. Rosmon Miguelangelo C. Valenciano, SDB, Pastoral Animator of DBTC College and TVET, Fr. Vernil Q. Lopez, SDB and the Provincial Secretary and Youth Center in-charge of Lourdes, Fr. Regino Carlo P. Godinez, SDB. Thereafter, the action video of Youth Serving Youth was launched.
Mr. Ralph Gerard Padilla, the SYM Secretary gave the first input where the history, identity, vision-mission and the different associations on national level of the Salesian Youth Movement were highlighted. Later on in the afternoon of the same day, Fr. Sabal, SDB shared a glimpse about the Synod of Bishops on the Youth where the 15th Ordinary General Assembly of Bishops will happen on October 3-28, 2018 at Vatican City with the theme, “Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment.”
Towards the end of the formation program, the 146 SYM youth leaders and animators were given pieces of paper and asked to write their dreams for the Salesian Youth Movement – Philippines in the forthcoming years. The papers were the jigsaw pieces that revealed the image of St. John Bosco who is the ever-glowing source of inspiration of the SYM.
It was indeed a successful formation for the Cebu District as the youth leaders and animators went home with the spirit of Youth Serving Youth ablazing in their hearts.
