Cebu City – The BOSCO Council, the coordinating council of student leaders, led the launching of the Salesian Youth Movement youth groups in DBTC yesterday, September 18, 2019, at the school gym. The regular morning assembly gave way to the showcase of dance and music from the different youth groups. Led by their teacher animators, each youth group introduced themselves with a yell. The response groups composed of the Citizen’s Army Training (CAT), Don Bosco Amateur Radio Club (DBARC), Boy Scouts, and Emergency Response Team (ERT) gave a haka, a traditional New Zealand war cry.
Through the kick-off, with the blessing of Fr. Rector, Fr. Fidel Orendain, SDB, the youth groups begin their regular activities for the school year. The Pastoral Animation department has reorganized the structure of the Salesian Youth Movement in the school to make it more inclusive, more empowered, and more intensive.
Youth groups have always been an integral part in the Salesian way of education. As Fr. Fidel mentioned in his announcement, “the youth groups were considered by St. John Bosco to be his longa manus“. It is through the experience of group life that young people are empowered to serve and grow together in holiness.
