The Don Bosco Youth Center-Lawaan recently held a leaders’ camp for current youth leaders and aspiring leaders last August 26 – 28, 2023, marking the fourth year of Camp Tagubtub. It was held at Don Bosco Formation Center. The camp was themed “Ayaw Kahadlok, Ayaw Kaguol, Kabataang Salesyano.” During this time, various activities were conducted, including the evaluation of school year activities, outdoor excursions, youth encounter, and appointment of newly core group officers.
On the first day of the leaders’ camp the participants had an island-hopping adventure where a special Holy Mass was celebrated by DBYC in-charge, Fr. Vince Michael Sabal, SDB. This 1st day interaction set the stage for more engaging days ahead. As night fell before dinner, everyone gathered in the garden of Mary Help of Christians to have a Rosary. A light recreation followed.
The second day marked the start of the Youth Encounter which was facilitated by Kuya Ike Abastillas. The participants spent the whole Saturday in the AVR where they underwent the core activities of the Youth Encounter. The day ended at 1am after an intense experience of processing and self-discovery.
The group reconvened in the AVR for the second day of the Youth Encounter. The second day was characterized by themes of affirmation and gratitude where the participants exchanged notes and messages to their fellow youth leader. The Youth Encounter concluded with profound insights and reflections from the participants.
After the Youth Encounter, appointments of new youth leaders were done. The appointment was presided over by Leona Jane Villanueva, the current DBYC president, with Juvanil Alvarado, the Senior Animator of DBYC-Lawaan. The new officers include John Lorenzo Oflas as the core group treasurer, Louella Pacada as the core group secretary, Christell Lastimosa as the core group vice-president, and Vhanne Brian Villaso as the core group president. These newly elected core group officers were set to guide and lead the upcoming school year, aiming to make it both memorable and enjoyable at the Don Bosco Youth Center-Lawaan.
The brief span of three days and two nights proved to be highly effective in achieving the objectives of this camp. These days were truly memorable and brimming with fun for the youth leaders involved.
