by: Hera Nebria

Don Bosco Youth Center-Lawaan members, alongside Rev. Fr. Vince Michael Sabal, SDB, the youth director, participated in the 2025 Vocational Jamboree, which took place at the University of San Carlos from February 22-23. With the theme “Pilgrims of Hope: Casting Nets, Journeying Together,” the participants gathered to listen to inspiring talks, worship, and have fun at the same time. Various religious congregations organized interactive activities and exhibits, allowing attendees to gain new perspectives on their future vocations and the significance of community service.

On February 22, the students of the University of San Carlos officially opened the Vocation Jamboree 2025 with an outstanding performance. After the Opening Salvo, Fr. Patricio delos Reyes, SVD, shared his vocation story. He emphasized the importance of answering the call to priesthood. Despite the obstacles he faced, he persevered and remained faithful to God’s calling. USC’s Presidential Assistant for Mission and Spirituality, Fr. Jerome Montesclaros, SVD, delivered the opening remarks, welcoming participants to the event. He stated, “I consider each of you a co-worker in the vineyard of the Lord, co-fishers of men… Let us be grateful to God for allowing us, in our brokenness, to partake in His mission.”

A Holy Hour was led by Fr. Romulo Maypa, SVD, Vocation Minister of the SVD Community. He encouraged participants to place their trust in Jesus Christ, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament, and referred to the Vocation Jamboree as “our Lake of Tiberias” (cf. Jn 31).

After an hour of silent reflection with God, a series of plays written and directed by Msgr. Agustin V. Ancajas were performed. Teatro de San Pedro Calungsod, the Archdiocese’s theater group, presented Mga Dula sa Pagtuo, featuring four different plays: Ringtone, Sila nga Mitaliwan na, Wedding Garment, and Paghurnal Panahon sa Tingpugas. Each play conveyed valuable lessons that reflected real-life situations, particularly in relation to the Church’s teachings and evangelization.

Following the performances, participants formed small groups facilitated by mentors to share their reflections and insights. Afterward, they explored exhibits and booths set up by various religious congregations and lay organizations. Priests were also available for the sacrament of confession.

On February 23, seminarians from the Don Bosco Formation Center and members of the Don Bosco Youth Center led participants in “Jamming para sa Bokasyon.” The audience enjoyed and regained their energy as they listened to and celebrated the musical talents of the performers. Attendees also witnessed a cultural show, showcasing artistic expressions of faith and vocation.

The night continued with a special session called “Pangutan-a si Lolo Jose,” where Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma provided guidance and practical insights on various concerns, including prayer, discernment, charity, and apostolate. The Vocation Jamboree 2025 concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Archbishop Palma, together with visiting priests from different congregations.

“It is how we live our life, how we nurture our family, and how we become instruments in making this world a better place that makes us truly worthy of our vocation,” Archbishop Palma emphasized in his homily.

To end the event, the Archdiocese of Cebu’s Vocation Director, Fr. Christian James Mayol, presented tokens and certificates of appreciation to individuals and groups who contributed to the success of the Vocation Jamboree 2025. He also announced that the Vocation Jamboree 2026 will be hosted by the Archdiocese.

Everyone went home with smiles on their faces, inspired by the meaningful experiences and vocation stories shared throughout the event. May all who participated in this unforgettable Vocation Jamboree 2025 continue to be guided by the inspiration they received as they embark on their chosen vocations.
