The Salesian Province of the Philippines South celebrated its 30th founding anniversary on the 24th of May, 2022, Solemnity of Mary Help of Christians. It was a milestone for the Province as it recalls 30 years of mission in Visayas and Mindanao.
A Holy Mass was celebrated at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes at 6 in the evening. It was presided by the Provincial Superior, Fr. Fidel Orendain, SDB, together with other concelebrating Salesian Priests. Among the attendees were the many representatives from the different groups of the Salesian Family—Salesian Brothers, FMA Sisters, Cooperators, VDBs, Lay Mission Partners, Past Pupils, students and the Aspirants of DBFC. Worth noting was the attendance of the ADMA members from Pasil and Olango Island, who were in full force in number.
In his homily, Fr. Fidel highlighted many aspects of the 30 years of the Province’s existence. In particular, he mentioned the growth of the Province and its enduring service to the Philippines South and the delegation of Pakistan. One thing that he pointed out was the need for more vocations to the Salesian Congregation so as to ensure the perseverance of the FIS Province. He asked each Salesian house to support at least 1 vocation every year. This is a challenge that will require much effort and generosity from the entire Salesian Family.
After the Holy Mass, a dinner was held for the SalFam members. It was a special occasion for fellowship following the 2 years restriction of such gatherings.
