The Commission on Youth Ministry Youth Centers sector, headed by the previous in-charge Rev. Fr. John Vernil Lopez, SDB, organized the annual Inter-Don Bosco Youth Center summer league of the different Don Bosco Youth Centers (DBYC). The opening ceremony took place at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes – DBYC Gymnasium last May 11, 2018. The summer league was participated by the four DB settings namely: DBYC – DBTC, DBYC – Lawaan, DBYC – Lourdes, and DBYC – Pasil.
The IDBYC Summer League 2018 had only two sports: Basketball for the young lads and Volleyball for both young lads and lasses. The said event is one of the venues to gather and promote camaraderie among the Salesian youth specifically in Cebu District. Aside from the many formative inputs and group building activities SYM is giving the sports and recreation is a must for character building.
The short IDBYC Summer League 2018 ended last June 30, 2018, which started with a meaningful and prayerful Eucharistic celebration presided by the newly ordained and newly appointed SYM FIS and Youth Center sector head, Rev. Fr. Vince Michael Sabal, SDB. After which, the awarding ceremony started. For the Volleyball both Men’s and Women’s Division, Lourdes was declared as the Champion and Lawaan got the 1st runner-up. And for the Basketball game, the Lourdes got again the award as Champion followed by the 1st runner up, Lawaan. The special awards like Best in Uniform, Mythical 5 for Basketball, Mythical 6 for both Volleyball Men’s and Women’s Division, MVP, Finals MVP were also recognized. Consequently, DBYC – Lourdes was awarded as the Over All Champion of the IDBYC Summer League 2018 and the trophy they received will be passed on to next year’s Summer League Over All Champion.
