Kabataang Salesiano: Youth serving youth!
The much-anticipated Leaders and Animators Formation (LAF) 2024—Mindanao District has come to fruition. This year’s LAF, centered on the theme “Usage of AI, Adobe, and Canva in Youth Ministry,” was a transformative experience. Salesian youth leaders from Don Bosco-Dacudao and Don Bosco-Mati came together with enthusiasm and purpose, actively participating in this enriching event held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish – Don Bosco Mati on November 16, 2024. It was a day of learning, growth, and shared commitment to using digital tools to enhance youth ministry.
In the morning, delegates from Don Bosco-Dacudao and Don Bosco-Mati gathered at the SHJP Social Hall to begin the registration process. The event was formally opened with a warm welcome from Fr. Genson Banguis, SDB, the Parish Youth Director of Don Bosco-Mati, who extended his greetings to the speakers, facilitators from Cebu, and participants. Following this, the first speaker, Ms. Marie Arrianne Diolingo from the Commission of Youth Ministry—FIS Executive Office, took the floor to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today’s digital landscape. She explored the various digital tools and platforms that can be leveraged in youth ministry to amplify faith, foster creativity, and engage young people more effectively. Concluding her insightful presentation, she encouraged everyone to use AI as a tool to connect, inspire, and teach the youth in ministry.
In the afternoon, the second speaker, Ms. Mharlee Mae Cabalquinto, a graphic designer, introduced and provided an insightful overview of Adobe and Canva—powerful tools essential for effective design. She highlighted the key principles of design that youth leaders must understand and apply, especially when creating posters for youth activities. Following her presentation, participants were divided into groups of 4–5 members and given a creative challenge: to design a Canva poster promoting a youth event of their choice, applying the principles and techniques they had just learned. The event concluded with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Vince Michael Sabal, SDB (SYM FIS Delegate), along with Fr. Ariel Arias, SDB, and Fr. Genson Banguis, SDB. The final moments included heartfelt acknowledgments for all who participated, facilitated, and contributed, with special recognition given to the speakers for sharing their invaluable expertise and inspiring the youth.
This one-day event was a truly enriching experience, filled with valuable lessons and insights for young leaders and animators. Participants expressed deep gratitude to everyone who made the event possible, especially the speakers and facilitators, and, above all, to God for blessing this gathering. Reflecting the true spirit of St. John Bosco, the event was a powerful testament to the Salesian youth’s commitment to love and serve the ministry. All glory and thanks be to the Lord!
