Life’s Directions Trainors’ Training
February 16-18, 2018, Don Bosco Retreat House, Lawaan, Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines – Nine young professionals including two Salesians had a first hand experience with Life’s Directions (LD) Trainors’ Training from Fr. Ted Gonzales, SJ, together with four lay volunteers from Cebu and Manila.
The participants were equipped with the knowledge about the LD’s backstories and goals, more basic and practical tips to guide young adults in their journey, how to do the quieting exercises, simulation of the art of listening, the 5 modules of LD and the sharing of personal stories and experiences. Each one of them was also given the opportunity for personal consultations and or confessions.
The 3-day activity aimed to prepare a pool of young professionals who can help organize and facilitate Life Directions to interested lay collaborators particularly from the different Salesian settings who need an avenue for continuous self-reflection, discernment and learning. LD Retreat has been promulgated across the globe for more than 20 years. It aims to help young adults in their journey towards God through self-awareness and one’s innermost desires. The most distinguishing element of LD is the utilization of stories/experiences in aiding young adults in their self-discovery, for them to be resilient in facing challenges and to be wise in making life choices. It has been conducted in the FIS Province through the Commission on Missions since 2016. Another LD Retreat is slated on November 30 to December 2, 2018 in Don Bosco Retreat House, Mantalongon, Dalaguete, Cebu.
