Minglanilla, Cebu, April 6, 2024 – The Salesian Family in the Philippines South Province gathered in a spirit of communion, formation, and mission at the FMA Mary Help of Christians School in Minglanilla, Cebu. This significant encounter, themed “Communion, Formation, and Mission of the Salesian Family in Relation to Don Bosco’s Dream at 9,” drew members from various branches of the Salesian Family, including the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), Association of Salesian Cooperators (ASC), Association of Devotees of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA), Past Pupils of Don Bosco, Volunteers of Don Bosco, and Damas Salesianas. Also in attendance are the Novices, Prenovices, and Aspirants from the Don Bosco Formation Center of Lawaan.
The event’s highlight was an enriching discourse by Fr. Nesty Impelido, SDB, hailing from the Philippines North Province.
Fr. Nesty emphasized the critical need for a complete Salesian presence in missions, echoing the reflection of Fr. Egidio Vigano that “There is an urgent need in the missions of a complete Salesian presence.” This presence extends beyond the realm of consecrated religious to encompass co-operators and co-workers who embody Don Bosco’s vision for the youth and working class.
Fr. Nesty elaborated on several pivotal points, underlining that the Salesian Family is an ecclesial reality and a living heritage bequeathed by Don Bosco himself. He reminded participants that Don Bosco’s work is intrinsically linked to the Church and emphasized the importance of reflecting Don Bosco’s values in daily life. Key takeaways included the emphasis on reason, religion, and loving-kindness, and the vital role of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and Mary Help of Christians in the mission.
The day was punctuated with a Holy Mass and a communal lunch, fostering a deep sense of fellowship among attendees. The afternoon session was dedicated to showcasing the diverse talents within the Salesian Family, highlighting the unity and joy inherent in the Salesian spirit.
