On October 10, 2024, the six Salesian novices participated in a group dynamics activity at Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu. The full-day activity facilitated by Fr. Rooney John G. Undar, SDB, FIS Youth Ministry Delegate aimed at enhancing the novices’ teamwork, trust, and communication, all critical components of their future roles in the Salesian congregation.
The morning session opened with a reflection on the importance of community life in religious settings, followed by an icebreaker where the novices shared personal values and goals through the creation of a personal “Coat of Arms.” Activities such as a blindfolded obstacle course and tower-building challenge pushed the novices to rely on trust, communication, and creativity.
In the afternoon, team-building exercises continued with the Human Knot exercise, promoting teamwork and patience. The day progressed with personal reflection circles and role-playing scenarios to enhance their conflict resolution skills.
Each activity was followed by a debrief session where the novices shared their thoughts and experiences, drawing parallels between the exercises and their lives in the congregation. The event was designed not only to strengthen the novices’ bonds but also to prepare them for the responsibilities and challenges of community living.
The day concluded with a group reflection and prayer, focusing on their shared spiritual journey. The group dynamics activity highlighted the Salesian spirituality of community: family spirit, fraternal love, and holiness in daily life, all of which are essential foundations of a strong religious community.
