Salesians work with BECs in Calinan, Davao City

Mary Help of Christians Parish, Dacudao, Calinan, Davao City – This parish in Dacudao is one of the youngest in the city having been established in June 6, 2007 under the patronage of Don Bosco’s Madonna. The parish has grown from its initial 19 Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs), or Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKKs), to 24 to this day.

Fr. Ariel Arias, SDB, the parish vicar, does his Sunday apostolate going around the different BECs to offer to them the Holy Mass. Last Sunday, July 17, 2022, he celebrated the Holy Mass at the San Roque Chapel in one of the barrios here in Sitio Quiabaton, Brgy. Dominga, Calinan District, Davao City

His evangelizing work included giving formation to parishioners. Recently, he gave a talk on the importance of a devotion to Our Lady as Catholics and praying the Rosary as families of faith.

“It takes a lot to come here in this chapel,” he said. “It is quite far from Calinan proper but it is all worthwhile. Every Saturday our young people gather in the chapels too.”

This parish is one of two in Mindanao, the other being the Sacred Heart Parish in Mati City, Davao Oriental. Our Salesians continue to journey with the local churches in building communities for Christ.
