The world is in great challenge due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Its citizens and economy are in a difficult situation. People must adapt to the so-called “new normal,” and this does not exempt the Salesian Youth Movement.
The organization also embraced change and became innovative in reaching out to young people and continue its advocacy. The SYM-FIS will get in touch with the young through social media platform – Facebook. #BOSCOontheGo was launched last July 16, 2020 along with the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. It was the kick-off for the several virtual activities prepared for August.
Last August 16, SYM-FIS celebrated St. John Bosco’s 205th Birthday. Young people marked the day with fun honoring the Father and Teacher of Youth. All Don Bosco settings in the South Province merrily participated in the live celebration. The program started with the Holy Eucharist followed by the opening remarks from the Provincial Superior of the South Province, Fr. Godofredo Atienza, SDB. Also live-streamed were festive dances, dedication songs, and a showcase of talents.
These trying times do not hinder the spirit of service among young people. Amidst the pandemic, the youth showed their undying love and dedication to St. John Bosco. This shows that Kabataang Salesyano is always on the Go, and of course, the fire to serve is kept on burning.
