Young Bosconians Receive First Holy Communion

December 3, 2022, Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu – 193 learners from this school received their first Holy Communion today. Aside from the Grade 3 batch, this year’s celebration included several students from Grades 4 to 6. The coming of the pandemic suspended all religious activities for the past two years. It is then with gratitude that the school community offers to these Bosconians this Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Bosconian families gathered in the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes to witness the event. The celebration of the Eucharist began with a processional of the communicants flanked by their parents. Fr. Keith Amodia, SDB, Vice President for Pastoral Animation, presided at mass. After renewing their baptismal promises, the communicants received communion on kneelers.

While regularly offered by their respective parishes, DBTC has been running the First Communion program for Bosconians in order to ensure that learners are well catechized and sacramentalized. The program begins with a series of formation sessions on the sacrament, followed by practice sessions of the rite, and the preparation concludes with a recollection both for Bosconians and then their families.

The devotion to the Holy Eucharist is a central part of the Salesian System of education. St. John Bosco has always urged his students to go regularly for communion and confession. More than 150 years later, DBTC continues this tradition.
