Youth Formation in DB Mambucal
June 18, 2022, Murcia, Negros Occidental – The St. John Bosco Parish and Shrine holds today its youth formation for the 48 different chapels in this hinterland parish. Situated at the foot of Mt. Kanlaon, an active volcano on the island of Negros, the parish is host to mountain communities and far-flung chapels.
Around 60 young people gathered at the parish church to begin their formation. Fr. Arnel Mengote, SDB, organized the event. The formation is a follow-up to a retreat and youth encounter organized weeks before in order to revitalize the youth ministry in the parish.
After Fr. Arnel welcome everyone, the youth broke into groups for sharing of experiences. They then went outside for their amazing race around the barangay for fun and games. After which, they went back to the parish grounds to have their cooking festival. In the afternoon, the youth celebrated the Holy Mass.
The birth of this parish is a fruit of the missionary efforts of Fr. Franco Uras, SDB, an Italian missionary who established the retreat house for Don Bosco Technical Institute of Victorias here in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia. Later the flourishing faith community was canonically established as part of the Diocese of Bacolod.
The parish is home to many young people whose homes are separated by large tracks of agricultural land, hills and rivers. From time to time, the Salesians gather them together for common formation and fellowship.
