Power of Love for Christ

They were filled with great awe and said to one another,
“Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?”
Mk 4:35-41

12th Ordinary Sunday Cycle B

Job was tested by God on the suggestion of Satan. Satan removed all of Job’s possessions including his entire family. And to top it all Satan gave Job severe boils. Job broke down in the end and doubted whether God was doing right. God answered Job, and said: “Who shut within doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb; when I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling bands? When I set limits for it and fastened the bar of its door, and said: Thus far shall you come but no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stilled!” Jb 38:1, 8-11 In short God told Job that God is powerful and that nothing would go wrong with Him in charge.

A similar thing happened with the twelve apostles when at night they were suddenly caught in a violent squall. They said to Jesus,  “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” Jesus responded, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” And the sea and winds obeyed Jesus. Mk 4:35-41 God indeed is powerful so that nothing would go wrong with Him in charge.

God with His power can do everything with nature.

However, St. Paul tells us that we too have a power that can make us also do similar awesome things. And that power is our love for God. Specifically, the apostle wrote: ‘The love of Christ impels us.” 2 Cor 5:14-17 If we really love the Lord like the apostle we have to power to wondrous and great things in our own lives like God in the life of Job or like Jesus in the storm at sea.
