“Have you anything to eat?”, asked Jesus. They gave Him a broiled fish which He ate before them.
Luke 24:35-48
Many horror movies depict the undead eating the living for survival. But the idea itself is absurd. Why do zombies need to eat in order to live if they are dead? Does Count Dracula still need to suck blood to go on living if in the first place he is cold dead?
In the next life there is no more need to eat because our bodies are not any more like the bodies we have at present that experience hunger and thirst. Especially if we are lucky to get into heaven there would be no more tears, pain and sorrow besides the absence of hunger and thirst.
The apostles in spite of seeing Jesus alive with His punctured hands and feet remained incredulous. Maybe due to panic and fright of probably seeing a ghost. Even if overjoyed at being able to touch Jesus once more, they remained in their disbelief. Jesus had to give them further proof. Thus He asked for food. The apostles equate food with being alive.
This was all wrong so Jesus had to explain everything written about Him by the Moses, the prophets in the Psalms, especially that He had to suffer and die but be raised up back to life for the forgiveness of sins.
As Peter would later admit the apostles and the Jewish leaders acted out of ignorance Acts 3:17. But as John would also write in his epistle what is important is to repent and fulfill God’s commands 1John 2:5.
