To See Beyond

INSATIABLE.  We are never contented.  We already have something but we want much.  We seek for something more.  Is having much the same as being more?

Last Sunday, the crowd witnessed a miracle that answered their hunger.  Having been fed by Jesus, they wanted much from Him.  No wonder they’re looking for Jesus.  Today, the Lord Jesus tells them, “You want much bread? I am the bread of life.”  What can we learn from this revelation of Jesus as the Bread of Life?

We are invited to see beyond.  Our desire for nourishment can be so human.  But the Lord uses this basic human desire as an entry point to be with Him and to be like Him.  We can forget our assignments, household chores, and meetings.  But we can hardly forget to eat and skip meals. The Lord uses our being meal-oriented to draw us all to Him.

To see beyond is not to daydream.  To see beyond is to see God in everything, everywhere, and everyone.  To see beyond is to consider differences as a way to build bridges.  To see beyond is to see life’s problems as opportunities to cultivate values and virtues.  To see beyond is to be a gentle presence to those who are in need.  To see beyond is to look at ignorance as an opportunity to educate.  When we opt to understand than to spread lies, we see beyond.  When we decide to be reflective rather than reactive, we see beyond.  When we choose to love even if we are rejected, we see beyond.  When we look for meaning amidst misunderstanding, we see beyond.

To see beyond is neither looking for a place nor setting a destination.  It is to see how God sees you and me.  When we have God’s vision, we do not have only much, we are more.
