DBGYFF: Youth in, through, and behind the Lens
The Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival ended its second season today, October 14, 2023 in Los Angeles, California, USA, capital of the world entertainment industry. It ran with theme “Love builds Peace and Solidarity.” The film fest was organized by the Social Communications sector in Rome in order for youth to showcase their stories through the medium of the short film.
52 films were shortlisted for the global awards. The Philippine South Province contributed two entries one of which took a spot in the regional top 10. The film, Indayog, was produced by past pupils of Don Bosco Technical Institute – Victorias.
To celebrate the conclusion of the festival, young people from the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, screened the films – with free popcorn! The diversity of films opened the horizons of youth on the varied youth situations in the Salesian Family. These also encouraged and challenged them to join the next season of the film fest.
The accesibility of technology and tools, and savvy of youth opens up new avenues and opportunities for them to share their stories, their dreams, and their hopes even with only using their smartphones. Through the medium of the short film, our young people are at the center, at the helm, and in the voice of the story.
