Human Formation for Youth: Stages of Grieving

October 25, 2024, Don Bosco Youth Center – Lourdes Parish, Cebu City – Parting, Loss and Death are all parts of life. In a formation that fits with the upcoming celebration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, the young people of DBYC Lourdes Parish gathered to receive input on the Stages of Grieving. In this psychology-centered talk, the youth were shown the common stages of coping with loss. The talk is part of the monthly formation series dubbed Thank God It’s Friday.

Mr. Semhre Quijano, the resource speaker, is a registered psychometrician. In the talk, he explained to young people the non-linear, overlapping stages of grief as seen by psychology. He highlighted the fact that people grieve differently and it is important for peer groups to be present to one another in challenging times. Some participants were courageous enough to describe their personal experience of loss, break-ups, and death.

Around 100 young people came despite the incessant rains which shows the youth’s hunger for growth and commitment to formation. Salesian education and evangelization goes beyond the confines of the catechism and dialogues with the sciences, culture and technology. In this way, Salesian youth in our centers grow to become well-rounded Good Christians and Honest Citizens.
